Jesus Appoints Twelve Apostles

Twelve

"At that time Jesus went to a mountain to pray. He spent the whole night in prayer to God.

When it was day, he called his disciples. He chose twelve of them and called them apostles. They were Simon (whom Jesus named Peter) and Simon’s brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (who was called the Zealot), Judas (son of James), and Judas Iscariot (who became a traitor)."
Luke 6:12-16

While Jesus was going around from place to place, healing people, feeding them, giving them hope, teaching about God and His ways, and His purpose for their lives, He called certain people along the way, some of whom went with Him.

Now from these, He selected 12 men -- men of different backgrounds, but nevertheless simple, everyday men, and no different from any other.

These men He selected after an entire night spent up a mountain, praying.

There are lots of resources available which would tell us a little bit more about who these men were, where they came from, what they did before they were called and how tradition tells us what they did after Jesus left them and how they died.

Today, God's Spirit is still calling men and women to follow Christ and His teachings, and to become believers and disciples who will go to all the world and make disciples of all nations. Thus, fulfilling what Scriptures say about what will happen until the end of time.
