The Right Mindset

Credit: Sid Roth
"Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus"

Christ came down from heaven to live a simple human life with extraordinary and eternal implications. And He did it so each one of us can see it plain and simple, and easy to understand and relate to. And ultimately, to make as a pattern to follow.

But there was nothing simple about it. He had to come down with a purpose and the spirit and the mindset of a bondservant, even though His purpose was to make us free.

The trick being -- how to be a slave or a servant even though you are free to do as you wish.

And how do we have the same mindset? By following the very example of Christ, who was able to do so, and His many other followers who came ahead of us, who all modeled for us that yes, it could indeed be done. But not without a cost. For the world and our flesh will always try to make us do otherwise, and indeed some people will take almost a lifetime to get it. But will eventually will. But woe to those who wait too late...

God's presence and spirit is with us, and He is whispering "the past is the past, let's move on... I know you can do it, I go before you and I am with you always. Each one has their race, run your own, let others run theirs."

Imitating Christ’s Humility

"Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
    by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!"
Philippians 2:1-11 (NIV)
