"On the night when he was
betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he
broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this
in remembrance of me.” In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper,
saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement
confirmed with my blood. Do this in remembrance of me as often as you drink
it.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-25
Apostle Paul reminded the believers in Corinth
that Jesus told His disciples to do communion, so that they can remember
Him.
In the same way, Moses told God's people to
remember the day they came out of slavery, because the LORD brought them out of
it with a mighty hand. (Exodus 13:3).
They commemorated that day with the Passover
meal, much like the same meal, Jesus wants us to constantly partake in to
remember Him by. It is only fitting because Jesus was to become our Passover
meal. He is our ticket out of slavery and into the Promised Land.
This
Memorial Day, we remember those of us from the armed forces who died fighting
for the freedoms we enjoy in this land we call our own, the United States of
America. Let us not take for granted their service and their sacrifice. And in
the same way, we celebrate the passover meal or communion, to remember our Lord
and Savior and not for a minute take for granted the ultimate sacrifice He made
for us, especially because we do not deserve such amazing grace.
